Getting started – FAQs

What is the ultimate goal of the game?

The objective is to be the first manager to successfully deploy three full sets of Player and Staff cards onto your pitch. A set is complete when you have the required number of cards of the same colour as indicated on the cards themselves.

How do we set up the game for the first round?

First, remove the “getting started” cards from the deck and shuffle. Deal five cards to each manager. The remaining cards form the pickup pile, and play proceeds clockwise.

How does a standard turn begin and end?

Every turn begins by drawing two cards from the pickup pile. At the conclusion of your turn, you must ensure your hand is centralised to a maximum of seven cards; any excess must be discarded.

How many actions can I take during my turn?

You are allowed up to three plays per turn. A play includes deploying Player or Staff cards to your pitch, depositing Bucks into your bank, or playing an Admin card. You are not required to use all three plays.

Can I reorganise my players once they are on the pitch?

Yes. You can freely move Player and Staff cards around your pitch to complete or maximise sets. This action is not considered one of your three plays and can be done at any time during your turn.

What is the purpose of banking Bucks?

Banking your Bucks is a vital defensive strategy. It provides a buffer to pay off debts to other managers. If your bank is empty, you are forced to surrender your Player and Staff cards from the pitch to settle debts.

How do Pay Day cards work?

If you have Player and Staff cards on your pitch, you can play a matching Pay Day card to charge all opponents. The amount they must pay is prioritised based on the number of cards in that specific colour set you have deployed.

What happens if I cannot afford to pay another manager?

If you have no Bucks, you must pay with cards from your pitch based on their individual value. If you have absolutely no Bucks and no cards on your pitch, you are not required to pay; the game does not recognise IOUs.

How do I use Admin cards like Bus Is Full?

Admin cards allow you to disrupt opponents through steals or swaps. The Bus Is Full card is particularly unique as it is played in response to an opponent’s action. Because it is reactive, it does not count as one of your three plays.

Is the game over immediately once someone gets three sets?

Not necessarily. If a manager wins, an opponent may play an “Extra Time” card. This allows that opponent to draw two cards and take one final turn to attempt to win the game themselves, potentially overriding the initial victory.
